Skydive Space Center in Titusville offers tandem skydiving jumps at 13,500 feet over one of the most visually spectacular drop zones in the country. From that altitude on a clear day you can see Kennedy Space Center's launch pads, the full length of Cocoa Beach and the Space Coast, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River stretching south below you. It is a perspective on this part of Florida that almost no one ever sees.
Tandem skydiving requires no prior experience. You are harnessed to a certified instructor who controls the jump, freefall, and parachute. Your only job is to arch your body correctly during freefall and enjoy the experience. Training takes about 30-45 minutes on the ground before your jump. The freefall at 120 miles per hour lasts approximately 60 seconds before the parachute opens for a 5-7 minute canopy descent.
At 13,500 feet over the Space Coast on a clear day the visibility extends 50 miles or more. The launch pads of Kennedy Space Center are clearly visible. The Banana River and Indian River Lagoon are visible as distinct water bodies flanking the barrier island. The Cocoa Beach strip is visible below. If a launch is scheduled for the same day the timing occasionally aligns for a view of a rocket during ascent from altitude.
