The Short Version

Cocoa Beach has a subtropical climate. It is warm to hot most of the year. Summer is hot, humid and has afternoon thunderstorms almost daily. Winter is mild and dry. Hurricane season runs June through November with peak risk in September. The best weather for a beach vacation is October through April.

Spring (March–May)

Water temperatures climb from the low 70s in March to the upper 70s by May. Air temperatures are pleasant — mid-70s to mid-80s. Spring break crowds arrive in March. Weather is generally excellent with lower humidity than summer.

Summer (June–August)

Summer is the most visited season but the most challenging weather-wise. Daily highs are 89-92°F with heat index values often above 100°F. Afternoon thunderstorms develop almost every day between 2-6pm — plan beach time for mornings. Water temperature reaches 82-84°F.

Fall (September–November)

September is prime hurricane month — check the NOAA forecast when planning. October and November are excellent. Temperatures drop to the 70s-80s, humidity falls, crowds thin, and Atlantic swells begin producing better surf. Many experienced visitors consider October-November the best time to visit.

Winter (December–February)

Lows can reach the 50s during cold fronts. Most winter days are 65-75°F and sunny. Water temperature drops to the mid-60s. No crowds, excellent hotel rates, and you can use the beach comfortably most days.
