Launch Day Parking Guide — Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral

Beat the crowds on launch day. The parking strategy that locals use to never miss a launch and never sit in traffic for two hours.

The launch window opens in four hours. Your hotel is in Cocoa Beach. You just found out half a million people are trying to get to the same beach. Here is the play.

The Golden Rule: Get There Early

On any major SpaceX crewed or Starship launch, the corridor from Cocoa Beach to Cape Canaveral becomes gridlock 2-3 hours before the window opens. The solution is not to fight traffic — it is to already be there. Park at Jetty Park when it opens (typically 7am), bring food and drinks, and spend the day. You will be in the best spot on the coast when the launch happens.

LOCAL TIP
Jetty Park charges $15/car entry. It fills completely on major launch days. They stop admitting cars when the lot is full, sometimes 2 hours before launch.

Cocoa Beach Park and Rideshare

If you're staying in Cocoa Beach, park at your hotel or at the free residential streets west of A1A. Then use Uber or Lyft to get to the viewing area. The rideshare takes 10-15 minutes with no traffic. Your driver drops you at the viewing spot. After the launch the surge pricing will be high — either walk south along A1A for 30 minutes or wait 45 minutes for surge to drop.

LOCAL TIP
Uber drivers know launch day well. Tell them you want Jetty Park or the A1A pullout near Canaveral. They will have a route.

The Local Secret: A1A Pull-Overs

Locals don't fight for Jetty Park on launch day. They drive north on A1A, pull over in a safe area when they see good sightlines, and watch from their car or from the roadside. This is legal, requires zero planning, and gives a perfectly good view. The drawback is you cannot hear the launch clearly from inside a car. Get out and stand on the roadside.

LOCAL TIP
The beach road pullouts north of Cocoa Beach, between the city limits and Cape Canaveral, have wide shoulders designed for exactly this kind of stop.
